Down By Two

Today, I played against BobbyDoc2. They went with Weave. A bit different than I am used to seeing from them. I think I sort of know BobbyDoc more for Core. With the emphasis on using Core this month, it was interesting to the deck BobbyDoc tossed down.

I went first with Orlon. A lucky draw in my starting hand had two Sea Barls starting a good pace on my card draw. When BobbyDoc revealed Keru and played a Junjertrug Horn, I was surprised when they put two copies of Blade Hyren into the discard pile when using Keru's power. With a Drowl and Junjertrug in play, I chose to attack with both barls. Final Blow with a Corf took the Junjertrug while a fresh Karak played at the same time stole the horn and setup Orlon for defeat. Keru got the horn back, but BobbyDoc did not choose to play it back out. The Brothers of Vengeance tossed down big with a good number of creatures. BobbyDoc spent all of Keru's energy and got several of my creatures. My next turn involved playing another creature, relic, and using the brothers' power as usual. Wawek flipped over and my understanding of the Blade Hyren grew. I still had more energy in play at this point despite Wawek's effect. BobbyDoc then played out Rayje's Belt and locked down Dream Barrier from my Wellisks. Warrior's Boots, Seaweed Lascinth, Weave Seed, The Hunt and a Junjertrug summoned via Weave Path made quick work of the brothers. A rather quick and furious game. BobbyDoc demonstrated once again why I respect their skill. A good game.

Almost Twice Again

After a short day of work, or study as it was, I was back online in hopes of another game. I did a few things away from the computer and found CapAp ready to play a game when I got back to my keyboard.

We almost quit and started anew. It seems CapAp somehow had the wrong magi starting their stack. I was familiar enough with Eryss to go ahead and play as if she was there instead. Orlon started off with a really bad hand. I was thinking that things were really looking downhill from there. Eryss had a massive advantage when Orlon went down after a very brief struggle. I am not sure he even twitched much. The Brothers of Vengeance had to fight uphill against Eryss. A big key was surviving just well enough to get rid of the Jile in play. That made things a bit easier for dealing with Eryss and her swarm. The brothers would be using their power nearly every turn from this point out. They probably never had more than two relics in play at any given time, if you don't count the relic Korg's Poetry that they took with the cube from Phlouk. Phlouk really showed up briefly. Although the brothers had struggled to escape from under Eryss, they were picking up steam quickly. Rayje's Shield was proving to be a real assett turn after turn. Phlouk really had tossed down good. Korg then flipped over. It took a Blight after Korg had played a couple Swamp Hyren and several other creatures to get my smallest creature down to where Turn could take it. Spirit Drain took the edge off that I had gained with the two Hurricane Orish in play. However, with only two energy left on Korg, the game ended when I played Maelstrom on my next turn. Things would've been real tough if CapAp had been able to answer with Spirit of Rayje. The brothers had some real steam going into Korg and might've been able to pull off something good, but just poking Korg like that was fun. Otherwise, things were looking good for Korg.

Double Trouble

Freigabe was on this morning while I was entering in some more deck ideas for the November tournament. I still had not chosen a region and was working on some different decks in the hopes that one might stand out. Building a deck with just three Core cards would have been fairly easy. I do that commonly enough. Requiring five for a non-Core deck was taking me a little more effort, and it was getting my creative juices flying. Most of my decks felt like they were lacking, though.

With freigabe online, we had the first game of the tournament, twice. Early into the first game, freigabe got dropped. The game wasn't saved, so we started over. Evil Evu went first the first time around, but Orlon got the advantage in the second game. I was probably doing a little better in the first game, though I can't be sure of that. In both games, I got to my second/third magi, the Brothers of Vengeance. I did manage to squeak past Evil Evu in the second game. With a Spirit of the Core played, Auriolis took my Hurricane Orish and I ended up using my Wellisks. This left the brothers quite open to a Dark Ayebaw. Freigabe was doing very good. While my own multitude of mistakes (and there was a lot of them) didn't help me much, I don't think even a miracle could've pulled things around for me.

Well, one game down. Here's hoping that I can find some freetime to get in a few more. I will probably be restricted to the weekends for a bit. Work will have me out of town during the weeks most of the time. Although, if my wife goes into labor, then it might be another story (which would of course take priority over playing Magi-Nation anyways).
